Franco, Maurits and Warren...

Thanks for the SPOD feedback!

The summer tracks certainly do extend a long way...but for a first try I am quite happy.

Stuart...

Regarding the spots on the exposure, I am thinking that it might be condensation rather than direct water entry through the pin hole. I could see that water would accumulate in the bottom of the can, but if there was a big temperature change the can doesn't breathe well through the small home. If some water did lay in the bottom it could also contribute to condensation. The bottom of mine was dry when I opened it, so that was good news too!

I love all of the posted solargraphs: each unique and raising interesting discussion!
Here's the best I could do with the remains of the crushed solarcan. It features the historic railway sign which marks the halfway point between London and Edinburgh in the UK.

Next project is the analemma with a Solarcan, Puck & DIY mint tin kept safely indoors so hopefully it wont be stolen or vandalised!
Best wishes,

That is a beautiful Solarcan result, Nic ! Great that you could save this from the crushed can, the railway sign makes it even more interesting.

Very nice, nevertheless :)

Counting the solar tracks, you should be able to work out when it was trashed. Not that that helps in any way. I really like the railway sign in the frame. Nice one.

As you say Nic, all of these solargraphs are awesome.
Each can has a story to tell about the Sun, and in your case an extra story about the life and times of a can.
You managed to resurrect the soul of your can - well done!!!
Great choice for the foreground.

Thanks all, this 50ft wide sign was handmade by a local apprentice engineer when he was 17 in 1938 using only chisels, a hacksaw and a file. It was restored by Network Rail in October this year at the request of the family. I reckon that’s when it stopped recording. It stands in the quietest spot usually… just unfortunate I should choose renovation year to feature it!

My Solarcan #2 is now installed. I put it directly on top of the front entrance: this should have a much better field of view and I also gave it a bit of a tilt, hoping to catch the top part of the sun itinerary this time. I guess it will be trial and error. Our neighbors already probably think we are kind of weird with all these telescopes... now this thing hanging above the front door

New target date is June 30.
