12-30-22. Quick 8x32 WL Observation.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

I quickly observed the sun using my trusty Lunt 8x32 solar binoculars through a thin place in a nearly overcast cloud deck. It had just shortly quit raining. The temperature is 51F ( 10.5C ).

I can see three numbered active region spot groups. Two of these are in the northern hemisphere and one is in the southern hemisphere. One additional group in the northern hemisphere is unnumbered.

Two spots can be seen very near the eastern limb. It's a new spot group! Well west of it but still in the NE quadrant lies AR13176. It is seen as three spots with the lead one being single and the trailing ones being a close pair. ESE of it across the Central Longitudinal Meridian in the NW quadrant lies a pair of spots belonging to AR13179. I never saw the single spot of AR13173 to the north but with a bit less intervening cloud and with a bit more time to get a view in I think I could have gotten it.

An SWL M-class flare alert came in just before this observation. Clouds kept me out of Ha. I hope someone got it.

Off to run errands I go... I'll still take the binos with me.

James

James, check out the video from GONG at the Cerro Tololo site. Be sure to reset the image increment to 1 and around 19:00 a huge eruption occurs at AR3176. I may try to copy those frames for an animation.

Thanks for the report James.
I plan to order the 8x30 Sunocular but there's here a long waiting time.

Maurits

Alexandra,
It’s rainy here today too. I’ll be lucky to get even a bino view.

Happy New Year’s eve.

Maurits,
I bet Christmas has them backlogged. Go ahead and order them. They will come back in. Or you could look for a set second-hand.
