2022 Geomagnetic Activity Summary

Post by Carbon60 »

I've summarised the geomagnetic activity recorded on my magnetometer over the past year (except for a period in April/May when my magnetometer was out of action). The lower chart shows the rate of change of magnetic declination (east-west magnetic field vector) and the upper chart is a running average of the first chart. Fast flowing solar wind, southerly oriented magnetic fields carried by the wind, coronal holes (often the origin of fast flowing solar wind) and CMEs all contribute to Earth's geomagnetic environment and all have an effect on my magnetometer.

I'll try to pull together some data from solar minimum in the same format for comparison.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.
