I have always ZWO ASI camera's used, but now I have an Imaging Source DMK41AU camera that I can use for a time.
The big advantage is that I have no Newton rings in de recording with the DMK camera even not any sign ...
When I use the ZWO I need always a tilter to remove the rings ...
Strange I don't see so many DMK camera's used.
Imaging Source DMK camera.

Re: Imaging Source DMK camera.
I've not used a DMK for quite a few years. If it works wirh no newtons rings then do it.

I have a DMK41 and love it, no Newton's rings. I would use it, but I have never been able to get it to work with Windows 10 or 11. If you know how to do it let me know

Re: Imaging Source DMK camera.
I found the DMK 41 works ok with newer Windows versions (although the DMK 51 is much more problematic since Imaging Source never put out a new driver for it). I would say the biggest drawback is the slow speed (USB 2.0) and potentially also the 8-bit depth resolution. It's sensor used to be considered quite big but it's now very mid-sized.
I sold both my DMK41 and DMK51 a few years ago since I was afraid they would stop working due to software changes, either due to Windows and Intel (which control the USB interface) or the acquisition programs (FireCapture, SharpCap, etc). Imaging Source have kind of orphaned them.
CMOS does have some drawbacks compared to the traditional CCD. I keep my old ATIK 460EX around (in a drawer somewhere) despite having "upgraded" everything to ZWO over the last few years.

DMK or The Imaging Source " cameras where popular about 10 -15 years ago but in those times they were only FireWire connected and then suddenly other cameras appeared on the market like the Point Grey cameras, etc and they lost popularity ...
I once had 6 of those DMK DBK or whatever model and made a lot of research.
Now the ZWO, Player One, QHY, ATIK or whatever other brands have made a better marketing then those German DMK cameras and well they lost the market. I once had a long telephone call with one of the German owners of the DMK cameras ...

Re: Imaging Source DMK camera.
I use the DMK Au 41 02 only with my little Lunt LS35 mm Ha scope, because I can't use a tilter in that setup ( it's to tinny) and with the DMK camera I haven't Newton rings.
Thanks all for the feedback.

Re: Imaging Source DMK camera.
Exactly Maurits, my DMK41 was perfect for my PST, no rings, and fitted a full disc. I have been so frustrated I can't get it to work. I tried with new software, drivers etc and it just won't work on my new laptop.
