January 23 2023. Orion70 WL & Slooh Lunt60 Ha.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session time with the Orion70 was from 16:00 until 16:40UTC. Intermittent. The skies were mostly cloudy with well below average seeing conditions. The temperature was 37F ( 2.7C ). Windy.

The Sun at the Teide Observatory was low in the SW sky which put the seeing there as certainly below average affecting the Slooh Ha images.

Orion 70 Solar Telescope. 25x and 41.5x ( WLC )
Despite the Sun looking a bit less spotty I can still pick up a dozen areas of disturbance on the white light photosphere. Nine are in a belt across the northern hemisphere. Eight of these carry NOAA numbers ( SWL and SM ) with one being unlabeled. The southern hemisphere shows three with two bearing NOAA labeling ( SWL ).

A tiny new spot is seen just inside the NE limb. Just to it's west I can see the spot and faculae of AR13200. To the WSW of AR13200 I see AR13199 as a asterism of small spots and pores that resembles the constellation Bootes! Another small spot is seen due south. NW of AR13199 just east of the CLM lies AR13198. It's seen as two spots with the larger one leading. I can make out umbra-penumbra structure in the lead spot. AR13197 just SW of AR13198 at or just past the CLM in the NW quadrant is seen as two small widely spaced spots with pores to the SE. AR13196 is seen only as pores to the SW of AR13197. The far NW shows AR13192 as two close together spots that show a hint of structure. With some difficulty I can make out some pores south of the twinned spots. AR13191 is seen as two pores that take a close look to see among faculae. North of AR13191 lies faculae marking the location of AR13195.

AR13190 still looks splendid in the SW quadrant. Strangely the large spot follows a group of three smaller spots just to it's NW. Seeing limits what I can see in the big spot but I can see that it the umbra of the spot has changed shape a bit since yesterday no longer appearing like an embryonic fish. A large penumbra surrounds it and is very easy to see but I cannot see any real detail within it. An absorbed spot or umbralet is seen just within the northern edge of the penumbra. Faculae are visible now in the vicinity surrounding the spots though it is faint and takes a close look to see. AR13194 is seen as a couple of spots to the SSW of AR13190. The SE quadrant shows only a patch of faculae near the limb. I see no spots or pores there.

I did not notice the granulation at all today.

Carpe Lumen! :) Think positive. It's Monday...

James
