Most impressive one I've had the pleasure of seeing and imaging was this one in October 2014 ....

Large naked eye sunspots are a good field of study. I once had a No14 welders glass to view them. Eclipse Glasses work too. I think I have a pair somewhere left over from the 2017 eclipse. I’ll see if I can find them and start using them and recording the results again in my records. Mark recently saw the spot of AR13190 through fog.

I'll have to watch Knowing. It sounds really good. Superflares do happen on other stars. Red dwarfs have them and also some solar type stars but they seem to be more prevalent in G-type stars younger than our Sun. Research is still ongoing on whether they have ever occurred on the Sun. Superflares are magnitudes stronger than the 1859 Carrington Event.

While I have not done any 1x ( Naked eye filtered views ) recently, I have gotten numerous low power 8x solar binocular views. Check those out. I have posted quite a few here on this forum.

Without the help of angels how would humanity ever survive something like this? A superflare would most likely sterilize the planet or at least kill off 90 percent of all life. It may even strip the Earth of it's atmosphere.

Look up Flare Staron Wikipedia. Most are red dwarfs but their flares are immense.
