Prominence Animations H alpha 18-03-2023
I have noticed that this forum and Cloudy Nights are having problems. Hopefully things will work out.
The forum stats state that there are around 100 users on the site all unregistered so maybe it's a DNS attack.
Anyway back to being on topic, here's todays post.
Another scorcher in Brisbane ,the thermometer on my telescope registered 38 degrees celsius . I spent my session capturing Prominences and a quick flare on the south east that I didn't expect.
The northern prom was quite static , but the south western prom was a real fast one ,you could actually see the flux movement in live view.
This was my imaging setup. 120mm Skywatcher f/8 achromat in an open frame,a tilted 2" 7nm H-alpha fliter as a sub energy rejection filter, Baader TZ4 telecentric focal extender, Player One energy rejection filter,Combo QuarkChromosphere, modified PST etalon(from a Coronado PST), ASI432mm camera

Awesome animations Martin! I haven’t had any issues with CN but wasn’t able to get into Chat all day yesterday and today it just takes forever for anything to load.

That is one crazy prominence! Great to see how it evolves by different days.
Stephen made an update on Facebook (Charlie Bates Solar Astronomy Project group) about the issue on forums, I can't get in most of the time yet. It is a denial of service attack according to this update. I hope it will be fixed soon.

Thanks Petrus ,I thought it might have been a DNS attack.

Impressive work, Martin. The first tall prom is quite spectacular ! The second one is great too, with lots of action.

Excelent animations.
I do not look at the sky with the eyes of an astronomer, but of a person looking for the beauty of nature.
