Even more belated Mars occultation 30-Jan-23

Post by KMH »

Two Mars occultations in two months was pretty cool! Here is an egress image from the second one, on 30-Jan-23. Equipment was:
Celestron Edge11
2x PowerMate
ASI462MC (2.04 ms with gain of 242; only averaged 41 frame/sec for some reason - probably archaic computer)
No ADC, as it was almost directly overhead.
Stack of 34 frames
Firecapture, PIPP, Autostakkert, AstraImage, Photoshop
The seeing did not really support using the 2x PowerMate, and I was further hindered by the low framerate, so I'm reasonably happy how it turned out.

Wow!!! it is absolutely incredible to see both together like that. Getting the exposure right must have been hard :hamster: :bow :bow

Thanks! Mars is a bit dimmer than I would prefer. I didn't want to overexpose the moon though, or do non-global edits in Photoshop, so it is what it is. The surface brightnesses were more closely matched for the December occultation when Mars was at opposition. Now I need to finish up recent solar images!!

Kevin, this is an amazing landscape. Something incredible, like in a fantasy movie.
