Hot Friday Session

Post by Martin_S »

Another scorcher in Brisbane today, but the seeing was great. I imaged till the ambient temperature on my telescope hit 40 degrees celsius. Then I packed up as the Quark went off band due to the heat and the ASI432mm was registering a chip temperature of 50 degrees celsius even with my cooler.

Here are todays best captures.

Those temps are crazy! Your animations are hot too, Martin! Love the post flare loops in the last one.

Nice imaging and animations Martin.
The Quark going offband.. difficult since it has no cooling.. better prefiltration might lead to lower temps there.

Yes but i think its cheaper to wait for cooler weather.. i hope you dont have a lot of days with ambient temps like this : )

Oh my!! you brave soul!

Superb animations :bow :hamster: I really like the post flare loops, what time were these? I managed to capture some at 15:55UTC yesterday although I would have thought you would have been in bed at that point :) maybe this region has been flaring all day.

Great animation and picture, Martin. Interesting that the seeing was that good in such high temperature. Well done 👍

Hi,

Impressive temperatures and I think it is time in thinking in trying to use a cooler as I made. It keeps my camera, ASI 178MM, at ambient temperature and the investment is not very big.

I think I can still improve it by stacking two TEC ...which would need to run at different voltages but that is easily achievable by using a step down circuit which cost a few dollars https://tinyurl.com/DC-DCStepup-Stepdown

IMHO

Thanks Rainer, I'm working on a 2 stage cooler right now after reading your posts on coolers .

Martin,
Were these images taken on March 16th or 17th? I asked because I saw the same region on Friday morning ( Just after 15:00 UTC ) in a similar fashion complete with post-flare loops. I was cloudy and the time from home but Slooh got them from Mt. Teide in the Canaries as did the GONG Cerro Tololo instrument.

Your animation is so much better!

James

Hey Martin, sorry for the late reply, been baking out at our dark sky site, very hot out there but at least no humidity. These animations are really great considering the temps we had here in SE Qld. I was out Friday before leaving for Leyburn and had the same issues as you, 4322MM was registering 50.2C with cooler and the fan under the scope. I managed an animation but maybe bit past it to post. Your last animation here is brilliant. Congrats on the SPOD!
