Sun from the driveway on March 19th in Atlanta

Post by solarchat »

These first ones were all caught at 7 fps using a 6MP PGR Grasshopper Express/ASTRO-PHYSICS STARFIRE 130MM, Baadar Wedge, Lunt B1800 CaK module, and an externally double stacked Lunt LS100mm. All captured and processed on a 2013 iMac using ASTRO IIDC/Photoshop/Topaz.

This next batch was from the same time using the Player One Astronomy Apollo M-Max at 125 fps on another 2013 iMac using Firecapture. Same scopes as above.

The Player One camera is 1608 pixels across and the PGR is 2768 pixels at max resolution. The P1A has some banding issues and it’s a lot smaller image so less processing wiggle room.
The PGR was $3500 though and the Player One was $399 :)

i’ve been using the PGR for almost 10 years and I’m very familiar with processing images from it. I’m still playing around with the Player One so that may have an effect also.

Thanks again Stephen

I personally prefer the 6MP PGR Grasshopper set showing excellent results.

In some cases only I feel that either out of focus or unstable atmospherics might have affected the results from the Apollo M-Max camera,
but just my thoughts...

You've done well today for the comparisons etc.
Now for some kip...
Regards
Terry

Stephen,
All of these are very nice but I will agree that the PGR Grasshopper wins. There is certainly more detail in your PGR images Vs the Player One camera. I also notice that you have caught a flare in a couple of your P1A Ha images. Nice!

It's also nice to see someone here use ASTRO IIDC besides me! Yeah, I know, you have been doing it MUCH longer.

James

Great session Stephen. If everything else is equal our vote would be for the Grasshopper :)
