Solar Newton N200/F10 first light 18.02.2023
At 8:30 in the morning I tried the first pictures. Morning seeing is traditionally terrible and today was no different. In addition, there was a gusty wind and haze.
You can hardly imagine better conditions for testing a new telescope. However, I didn't give up and took some pictures. I feel that even without the apertures, the N200/F10 has a lot of potential, because never has the details come out of images as easily as they do today.
Placing the optics under the beam has proven itself very well.
I'm looking forward to a calm sunny day. A small mount can hardly handle a gust of wind. I will have to build a little bigger.

Great first light and scope, Petr. Congratulations. The fourth image, closeup of the big prom, is very 3 dimensional.

Re: Solar Newton N200/F10 first light 18.02.2023
Considering the conditions, it worked out pretty well. I also tried the Apollo mini with the IMX425 and surprisingly it provided a huge amount of detail on the F33. That's a nice surprise.

These are the remnants of the real socialism I grew up with. There was no money, nothing could be bought, so I had to make everything myself. No manufacturer would produce such madness commercially, except as a clothes dryer.

I am already cured of social networks of all kinds. I have several fields of activity that I deal with, for example I build classical concert guitars, and so I participated for some time on various sites, including YouTube. Zero benefit, just a waste of time, nothing more. I like to share the results of my work, but preferably only in a narrow circle of people with the same interests. It's nothing so amazing.

Those are wonderful results! That scope looks like an impressive design/engineering/manufacturing feat.
You should post some guitar pics on the Sunlit Earth page!

I know what you mean about social media - spent too many years on twitter, eurgh. Left it even before Elon Musk bought it, and was much happier for doing so.pupak wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 6:22 pmI am already cured of social networks of all kinds. I'd say your work is pretty good! Hmm, classical concert guitars...could you also build a ukulele?

Petr,
That 200mm F10 does great and looks cool too! The images look good. The last monochrome one is phenomenal!!
I do hope you do an off-axis telescope in the future. You certainly have the skill :-)

Petr. You are a genius, a great engineer, a skilled imager, a superb craftsman and an accomplished communicator. A true polymath.
All the more so for being highly motivated to build and to prove your amazing projects for us to enjoy and admire.
We are honoured to have you amongst us. Please keep doing what you do and sharing your triumphs over adversity.
You are personally pushing the boundaries and actively providing inspiration to so many others. This is important.
So many of us have passing daydreams but never go on to build our castles in the air. You do so and repeatedly. On steroids!
Remember that only a few of us post our thoughts publicly on this forum.
There must be countless others here who admire your work from afar yet remain silent.
Do not equate their silence with a lack of interest in your projects.
You are rapidly becoming a legend in solar circles.

I have never received so much praise in my entire life.
It's nice to be here and enjoy communicating with other solar enthusiasts and not run into human pettiness here.
I will be happy if my ideas help someone realize their project, although it is clear to me that you need to have the metalworking equipment, otherwise ideas are difficult to implement.

Re: Solar Newton N200/F10 first light 18.02.2023
You became the engineer and craftsman your are today by overcoming hurdles.
This will inspire others to risk the building of their own projects with much greater hope of success.
Simply knowing that something can be done is often the key to human progress.
Take the "simple" Dobsonian. Born out of a need to provide practical and affordable aperture.
Countless businesses now thrive around the globe because of John Dobson's "yard cannons."
Many minds and skills are constantly brought to bear in perfecting an interesting concept.
We may not be able to copy your amazing skills and designs but we can certainly try to emulate them.
You have given us the impetus and proof that your "wild" construction ideas actually work.
Your instrument designs give us "permission" to try previously unthinkable builds in optical components.
By simultaneously providing photographic proof that will help to push forwards the boundaries of solar imaging.

These are not revolutionary things. Everything was here a long time ago. One way is to buy an LS152 DSII and have peace of mind for the rest of your life, the other is to create and invent new ones, or revive old ideas. My path is the latter and it makes me happy.

Re: Solar Newton N200/F10 first light 18.02.2023
That's very good (and somewhat unusual). It makes sense for narrow field of view imaging. Most Newtonians have secondaries that are bigger than necessary (in order to maximise the field of view). In this case, only 9% of the diameter is obstructed (0.8% of the area). This will sharpen up the Airy disk and give more contrast.
