Re: viewing a prom with different tools
drawing with SPV coronagraph and 60mm unitron
i gave up with camera even 3000 X 3000 chip to small!
i forgot tilter scope -- oh well!

Re: viewing a prom with different tools
WoW, I like all the different views. Are there any chance of seeing the corona itself, with the coronagraph if you are in a high dry place with really clear deep blue skies? Or is it designed more as a prominence viewer?
And you have a Unitron! Back in the late 1970's and early 1980's I really wanted one of those. Heck, I would still love one!

Re: viewing a prom with different tools
Absolutely wonderful, from filter to SHG and to prominence / coronagraph, the full range. What a thrill to see these and especially the sketch. I must get mine operational again, I wish I had more time to image and sketch.

right now I can do only Ha and Hb(about 10% of proms can be seen with Hb version)
to do corona you need very narrow iron line filters 1800-3600 dollars
a few people have done this
and yes you need to get up to about 1 mile above sea level
see link this was done about 2hrs from where I live

I found this
I assume its you
https://solarnutcase.livejournal.com/18374.html
you are lucky to have one
yes they are fun to use
closest thing to solar eclipse (but no corona )
need to study how they take photos

Re: viewing a prom with different tools
almost forgot
somebody managed to capture corona (to some extent) with SHG
this is similar to HeD3 processing.
you need to do 2 images and subtract.
I believe you still need to do this at higher altitude also
this is more advanced stuff
I mentioned Hed3 at zoom meeting with Doug Smith
it known as shallow line processing cause these things are very faint.
i hope one day to do this
i would need to be good at HeD3 images before attempting iron line.
this would be a cheaper than coronagraph.
my guess 4-6k with home built coronagraph.

Re: viewing a prom with different tools
I think George has posted corona images on SolarChat before. The other is Klaus. Both work together. Amateur Coronagraphy is a frontier few amateurs pursue. It's certainly fertile new ground for anyone with the money, the building skills and the location to do it.highfnum wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 8:29 am deepsolar4
