2023 May 21 - Spot the Difference
Lots of data on the sunspots that litter the sun today. Clouds and hazy skies made imaging somewhat difficult but it was still good enough to get some shots. Not as sharp as I had anticipated, but the white light images turned out okay.

Superb set of detailed photos.
I do not look at the sky with the eyes of an astronomer, but of a person looking for the beauty of nature.

Re: 2023 May 21 - Spot the Difference
Simon,
On the 4th picture down, a negative Ha image, how did you manage to bring the spot and it's immediate surroundings into sharp focus while throwing off the focus for the surrounding area? I think it's what photographers call " Bokeh ". It's using a shallow depth of field to concentrate the viewer's attention on the primary subject of an image. Using a DSLR this is achieved with a " fast " lens. The iPhone does it using internal software. How have you achieved this with a solar image? PhotoShop? However you did it, it works! Looks good!!

Re: 2023 May 21 - Spot the Difference
Its an effect in Photoshop known as Tilt-Shift. Technically, it is not true tilt shift in the traditional sense.

Very nice, Simon.
I applied ‘tilt shift’ to some of my images a while ago and really like the effect. Looks great with your hi-res inverted sunspot.

These are all great. I am always partial to HR photosphere images but the 4th tilt shifted image is visually stunning.

Re: 2023 May 21 - Spot the Difference
I have to be careful as to not end up producing something that is extremely gimmicky for the sake of views, but there is a certain alure to seeing it in a more 3D view which is something we would never actually see.
