May 24 2023 Multiband Imaging.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session was from 15:05 until 15:40 UTC. The sky unfortunately is nearly overcast with high clouds and the seeing is a bit below average. The clouds and seeing increase exposure time resulting me to having to downsize my images quite a bit to make them look a bit better. It wasn't a good day to image and much less image at 430nm but I did it anyway. The temperature is 70F ( 21.1C ) I used my Point Grey Grasshopper camera with my MacBook Pro running ASTRO IIDC in image acquisition. Editing/Processing was done in PhotoShop CC2020. Ha was done using the SMII90 DS, and 540nm, 430nm was done using my Celestron 102mm F10 achromat using the Altair wedge. The mount used is the Losmandy AZ8.

Very nice imaging James, clearly visible on your images that the 430 has more contrast then the 540nm.

It was a difficult session. I did the photosphere first when the clouds were a bit thinner. I was surprised they turned out as well as they did. I was disappointed with Ha chromosphere. Clouds really dimmed the image in the monitor and getting an evenly lit and tuned disc seemed impossible. I should have imaged Ha in single stack!

Alexandra,
I did not even notice the flare in the image, figuring it was just plage. Going back and looking at GONG and SDO images from that time I see it was a transient event. SpaceWeatherLive shows a C2.7 flare at that time!! I am glad you noticed this. You found something nice in my not-so-great image!!

Best of Sun indeed and have an awesome day, they keep changing the forecast here so its a guessing game lately. Hopeful for today!
My sky is quite milky today with the sun shining weakly through. Similar to yesterday. I'll still set up for visual today. Single stack!
