Pictures of Skywatcher 76 using Baader Astrosolar Film

Post by Solarscout »

Basic setup with Skywatcher Heritage 76 Mini dobsonian with Baader Astro Solar film that I cut out myself. My early introduction to solar observation through my own telescope before I got into hydrogen alpha. This was during solar minimum in the pandemic years...

It's a bit tricky to get the right exposure and focus on the phone to get the spots to show well. Sometimes trying an app that allows you to manually focus and control the exposure. I use one called " Yamera ". Also, especially when uploading a lot of images it is good to downsize them a bit.

I started Ha in May 1019. During solar minimum and just before the pandemic broke out. I've been doing white light for many years, off and on.

Nice shots, if you can dial the exposure back it will work well!

Attempts at capturing sunspots today with various eyepieces!

4mm eyepiece attempt. The viewing hole is tiny! I first used 20 mm to find the Sun. Skywatcher Heritage 76 comes with basic 20mm and 4mm eyepieces

Clearest shot with a higher quality 12.5 mm plossl

Thanks! Well, the plossl cost slightly more than the whole telescope and its two included eyepieces which I bought for $50 Canadian in near new condition

The plossl will probably be easier to image through with the phone camera. Those old style SR and Huygens eyepieces have very short eye relief, small lenses and narrow fields of view making taking images through them more difficult. The H20 will be easier than the higher powered SR4.

I use a 20mm plossl a lot with my Orion70.
