Bank Holiday Monday Sunshine - 29th MAy
We've had high pressure dominating our weather for a while and while you might expect blue skies and sunshine this sadly is not the case. Our air mass is coming in off the (relatively) cool North sea, and has been dragging in cloud. This thickens overnight and burns off (generallY!) late in the afternoon evening; as I type this now it is thick enough that we have quite persisitent drizzle...
Anyway, Monday afternoon came along and the low level crud started to burn off around lunch time revealing milky higher layers. Experience tells me that while this can negatively impact on image contrast it does have a positive effect on seeing. So, I decided to get the 152mm frac out and have a go with the solar spectrum 0.3a.
Here's the setup below.
2023-05-31_07-35-09 by Mark Townley, on Flickr
Notice the mighty midgetb Stellarvue 50 whitelight setup on the solarfind mount in the background, great for those quick peeks!
Seeing wasn't quite up to the 150mm resoltion, but the results weren't rubbish. I upped the frame count to 4000, and took 10 runs of each subject knowing that lucky imaging would reveal a 'best image'. I think the first was the best shot as after the sky intially cleared it started to cloud over again. with both seeing and transparency dropping.

While not ideal, was certainly better than no sun at all. Hoping the weather will clear up a bit in these coming days; we're off on the boat so space in the car permitting there will be some kind of travelling kit coming with me.
Hope you have clear skies!
Mark

Perfect detailed pictures. Your set has excellent resolution.
I do not look at the sky with the eyes of an astronomer, but of a person looking for the beauty of nature.

Re: Bank Holiday Monday Sunshine - 29th MAy
. That mighty mite StellarVue setup is tiny! But sometimes tiny things work well.
Nice images.
I’m still trying to get my internet back up on my computer. My phone hotspot isn’t even working. I’ve been using it a lot lately due to my home internet going down a lot. It may have a data limit. This may affect me posting large reports. The phone has it’s limits. My old home ISP, Morris Broadband sold out to Optimum. Morris was great. Optimum has sucky customer service. Anyway it may be only my phone for awhile.
I think you Brits are having better luck in seeing the sun than I have been, lately. Enjoy.

Great images, Mark. The weather and seeing conditions are so frustrating at the moment, but you’re making the best of it with that setup.

A beautiful set, Mark, in the not so good conditions. Nice setups too. We had problems here also with smoke from fires in Western Canada first and more recently from fires in the East.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Ouyt on the boat at the moment with the travelling kit. Been cloudy so far apart from an hour yesterday afternoon when I got some nice views in with the sunoculars.
