white light images taken on May 27 and 28 with the Mewlon 250 / OIII and G-band
Hi,
The Mewlon 250 is not the instrument that one thinks of spontaneously for solar observation. However, for high resolution, the field is large enough to cover the usual sensors. The optical performance with the Airylab telecentric is very good. Collimation stability is very good.
And the Astrosolar ND 3.8 works wonderfully. Still a ND3 version would be better, and we are still longing for the 1 m size ;-)
Here are some images taken on May 27. A lots of umbral dots are visible. The light bridge structure is splendid:

The two same regions on May 28 with the OIII filter :

and with the G-band filter. The resolution and contrast of faculae is much better. Of course, a 2 nm filter would provide even more contrast (but the Astrosolar ND 3.8 is too dark ...). With a carefull look, it can be seen that faculae are indeed the edge of convection grains:

AR3315 with the OIII filter :

and in G-band, with a lot of intergranular bright points :

More to come ...

These are stunning images, Christian. So much detail. I think I prefer the 430nm images, but it’s a tough call as they are all so wonderful.

These are an excellent set and show the comparison at different wavelengths well! Thanks Christian.

Thanks to all !
Stu, sometime I prefer the OIII, other I prefer the G-band ;-)
The G-band has the edge for granulation and faculae details. The OIII is very nice for umbral dots and light bridges.

Fantastic shots. I really need to try my 250 mm Newtonian this season, even if it's with ND 5 and some wider filter.
Another example that comes to mind is Tal 250K (sample WL shot by Dzmitry), a Klevtsov-Cassegrain with subaperture corrector.christian viladrich wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 6:20 pm The Mewlon 250 is not the instrument that one thinks of spontaneously for solar observation.
