Tilt for Ha

Post by Alto »

Okay, firstly these last 3 months here in NE Scotland have been appalling for imaging, mostly cloudy (but little rain!). Any opportunities are to be treasured - and the only real two occasions have been with poor seeing. (Afternoons have offered slightly more chances, but by then the air is really too turbulent).

I have used a ZWO 174MM-C successfully with a tilter - achieving interference-free imaging first time.

I have recently added an ApolloM-Max to my bag of cams, to use with a 102mm f11 'scope and Daystar Quark-C. UV/IR cut filter and the imaging train is straight-through.

The built-in tilter is set so one of the trio of screws is at zero position, the other two at 2mm.

I'm still getting Newton's Rings quite prominently.

May I ask other users of this camera how they have their own tilt set.

I measured a maximum gap of 3mm between the plates.

Also make sure to have the longer side of the chip as tilt axis, not the shorter one. More effective.

Thanks - I had no problem with my ASi 174 Cool and the ZWO tilt.
Only with the ApolloM.

Cloud still annoyingly stubborn to check.

Indeed, the Newton rings are very prominent with this camera. This is the first time I've seen Newton rings with such a contrast.

On mine, I had to introduce a tilt of 1.6 mm. In other words I've a gap of 1.6 mm near one screw, and minimum gap on the two oppositive screws.
It looks OK like this.
