Too much noise
I don't know if this is the right chat
Too much noise
I'm fine-tuning the 80/1000 f12.5 refractor.
I can't go down with the gain to have acceptable times, I always have to work at over 200 with the 1600mm and 20 with the 120mm, I'm using an astrosolar photo.
Do you have any idea why, given that before I used a 70/900 which was about 12.8 and the photos, albeit with the limits, were good?
Is it possible that the gain creates this problem?
This photo is a cropp of the asi120mm resampled to highlight the defect, that noise also exists in the original photo and even without color.
in a while I will get a herschel Apm I will have to remove the ND filter almost completely to go down in gain

Re: Too much noise
How much images do you stack? You can stack more to reduce noise.
Also i wouldnt use jpg format, that creates additional compression artefacts. png is more suitable for this.

Re: Too much noise
If you do use the jpg format, save them as big as possible. 100 percent in PhotoShop. PNG does average better than JPG but also takes up more space on a drive or forum server. TIFF is the best but is much larger.
I often have noise issues too. Even in my original photos. Maybe the image exposure is too long?

Re: Too much noise
Same questions as our two friends ;-)
- What is your exposure time ?
- How many frames do you stack ?
- Are you using a color filter in addition to the Astrosolar ND3.8 ?
In any case, the solar wedge would be a huge step forward.

Re: Too much noise
the exposure time is about 8ms (if I remember correctly) and even more to have a histogram above 70% I usually stack 150 200 frames, but seeing that those above average were smaller, I also dropped to less than 100, in addition to the astrosolar I use a uv/ircut and a 540nm baader.
Always Ser>Tiff until the end of the processing and when I'm done, I save / convert the last Tiff to jpg 100%
Today I reworked some ser and I've been on 400/500 integration frames the result has improved as far as noise is concerned, but in my opinion too much gain and time make the result worse

Re: Too much noise
Hi,
Just a simple tip. Put Gain at 0 and then adjust your speed to get 95% on the live histogram and process these SER files ...
Stretching the histogram too much gives you immediately noise ...
Why do you insist in fast exposure time. IMHO in White light you will see no difference after stacking ...
Just try it ...

Re: Too much noise
they were processed on the fly but I'm not satisfied at all, before even a coarse processing gave better results, in the second I closed the blacks too much

Hi,
Would you share a ser file to look at it and play with it?

Hi,
OK Thanks, Below a way to do it. Or maybe upload to Dropbox.

Re: Too much noise
I tried to do as you advised me, but I have very few frames per second and from where I photograph there are too many turbulences, I have Rome in front of it that releases too much heatrsfoto wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 7:00 pm Hi,
