speed issue with ASI462 MM camera
Hi all,
I have an issue with my all new ASI462 MM camera. This is the lasted model wth the DDR2 memory.
It is supposed to go up to 136 fps, but I can't go beyond 73 fps.
I tried with the last version of Firecapture and ASICAP. It makes no difference.
I have the latest versions of drivers. The PC is with on W10 64 pro.
No matter how much I try different USB traffic values and select (or not) High Speed in Firecapture, I don't exceed 73 fps.
It's the same with two different PCs, and regardless of the USB3 port used.
It's not a PC problem because I have quite a powefull configuration (I can run at 44 fps with the Apollo IMX 535 ).
On top of that, when I change the camera for the ASI290, and without modifying the configuration, I go up with 170 fps ...
Does anybody have a clue what can be going on ?

Re: speed issue with ASI462 MM camera
Christian,
have you tried high-speed mode in ASICAP. Had a case last week with an old ASI120_S that did not want to go in high speed with FireCapture until I set in in High-Speed in Asicap. Now it works again in FC as well. (no clue why) Looking at the specs of the cam it will only run that speed in high-speed (10bit ADC)
Suppose you are not running 16bit?

Re: speed issue with ASI462 MM camera
I have the ASI462 MC and I can get a steady 128fps in firecapture 2.7 (usb traffic is set to 96) so the MM should have the same sort of performance.
If I switch off high speed mode it drops to 77fps so maybe it is a driver issue ?

You didn't mention it but I assume you must have experimented with bit depth? Both my 462MM and MC only get the high frame rate in 8-bit mode.

Yes, it was in 8-bit mode.

Re: speed issue with ASI462 MM camera
This could be a driver issue. The camera is "new" in the sense this is the new generation with the DDR3 memory.
I've got 64.8 fps with high speed mode = 0 (8 bits), and 73.5 fps with high speed mode = 1 (8 bits).
This is the same with Firecapture and ASI CAP

Re: speed issue with ASI462 MM camera
Sometimes changing the USB cable helps. I have a quality USB3 cable with which all cameras work at maximum FPS, except IMX533. With another cable it works at 44 FPS as it should. High-speed USB is sometimes alchemy. Storage speed also plays a role. If I want the maximum, I have to reformat the external SSD before using it. Simply deleting the files won't help. Only ... knows the reason.

Re: speed issue with ASI462 MM camera
I recently got the Player One version and had problems too. I fixed it by downloading the Camera SDK. From there i took the "PlayerOneCamera.dll" and copied it manually into the Firecapture installation folder. After that full speed.
I guess this is something because its new and all..
Did you try the firmware update?

Re: speed issue with ASI462 MM camera
Thanks of your views guys.
- With the ASI290, I can run at 170 fps full-trame and 8 bits, which means 344 MB/s.
- With the Apollo-One Saturn-M IMX 533, I can run at 42 fps full frame and 8 bits, which means 370 MB/s !
On the opposite, with the ASI462 MM (with DDR3), I've only got 73.5 fps (8 bits, full frame, high speed mode), which means a mere 148 MB/s.
I have two SSD :
- one is 2 To in M2 format, writing at 3500 Mo/s,
- the other is 4 To in 2.5" format, writing at 530 Mo/s.
So, there is no deadlock on the computer side.
As suggested by Denis, and as the ASI462MM (with DDR3) is all new, there might be wrong somewhere.
I sent a message to ZWO ...
Indeed I've tried different USB3 cables, different USB3 port and two different computers.pupak wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 7:18 pm Sometimes changing the USB cable helps. Re: speed issue with ASI462 MM camera
This should work for the zwo version:
https://www.zwoastro.com/downloads/developers
download the SDK
-From the lib folder in the unzipped SDK open the x64 folder
-from there take the "ASICamera2.dll" and place it into the firecapture folder (safe the old file in the firecapture folder)
-Copy the ASICamera2.lib file into the lib folder which is also in the FC program folder

I've just tried, checked twice, but unfortunatly it makes no change :-(
For information, there was initialy no ASICamera2.lib file in the Firecapture folder. In any case, I copy the one from the SDK as you mentionned.
I hope to have a feedback from ZWO.

yes, otherwise you can also write Torsten Edelmann, maybe he already knows something.

Good idea. I'll probably wait one more day in case ZWO comes out with something. Then I'll get in touch with Torsten.

Re: speed issue with ASI462 MM camera
Just for the record, I know three other persons having this same "speed limit" issue with the ASI462 MM DDR3.
There is clearly a problem there.
Still waiting for a solution from ZWO.

ZWO are usually pretty good at updating their software/drivers so hopefully there will be a fix soon.christian viladrich wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 8:12 pm Some news, it seems there is a problem with the new firmware.
You do have to wonder about their testing though !

I should be happy then i didn't buy this camera yet, but i will not buy it anyway until i sell my other camera first to fund this, but good to know that there is an issue going around with this new model, so i think i will wait more and i am not in rush, hopefully ZWO can solve the issue, otherwise i will more to another brand of this camera model.
