That's interesting, can you work out which line this is?

I assume CaK is at the top? I don't see which other line you mean.

Hi,

That could be Hydrogen 4101.7Å. Counting the dark lines from bottom to top it is the 3rd one.

Nice work,so tempted to try fitting my surplus shed adjustable slit into the Sol'Ex so as to have a try at this method.

Alun

Lunt 50THa solar scope
Lunt CaK B12 module
SW Evostar 72ED for full disk imaging
Sol'Ex SHG
80mm f/7 achromat used with pressure tune module off the Lunt with Lunt 100mm ERF
Bresser 90 f/10 achromat used for CaK & white light imaging & PST mod with Lunt 100mm ERF
Coronado SM40 (pre Meade) and BF10 filter set + SMII 60 richview DS etalon
Skywatcher EQ6 Pro and Ioptron CEM60
Then there is all the night kit which is far too long a list to write up here!

it's H gamma @ 410 nm ; dont forget that your spectroscope suffers from strong anamorphosis due to its configuration so the spectrum shrinks a bit...

Aluminium wouldnt show the prominences as clearly and brightly .

I noticed the same on my experiment :

Your results are getting better :) well done

What is the typical slit width you use? Is it different for different spectral lines?

my slit can open up to 3mm
about 1mm is average for Ha
HeD3 much less
so yes it depends on line thickness

Alun you will need to swap out grating - 2400 lpmm to high
im using 1200
Chris (who is IMHO expert on this) thinks 600 lpmm is better.

Hello to Alun : yes 600 lines/mm is the best (not in visual though ; only when using a camera) .

Look at the prominence I captured today June 7th with the 600 lines and you'll be surprised at the definition :)
But if you wonna make a SHG then 1800 or 2400 lines will be best.

You guys who do this should have a look at these slits: https://diy-optics.com/collections/used ... y-projects

He made some trial samples for me but could not get below 50 microns. They are laser cut, similar to ones from Thorlabs but much cheaper.

Chris,at the moment the Surplus shed slit needs some serious cleaning up of its edges as John has mentioned but 600l/mm grating is on the shopping list
along with the multitude of other items i need :)) I have a 2400l/mm in my folded SHG at the moment.
