Noise is very low, excellent results (FD H-alpha image). I had only a few minutes before the clouds rolled in

It was difficult to record proms with this camera. When I increase gamma I have an uneven illuminated image...

I always have this problem with CMOS cameras

You at least had usable skies with new equipment. Usually clouds show up when new equipment arrives!!

It seems that the CCD camera is dying. CMOS is taking over. Both with video astrocams and mirrorless and DSLR cameras.

Thanks Arne & James

CMOS cameras are worse in my opinion. Stretched images are very noisy. I will have to deal with it. The player one Saturn-M camera e great though

Hi Pedro, I have an ATIK 460EX, which is similar in size to an IMX 533 sensor. Do you not use any CMOS cameras for cooled, deepsky observations? I keep thinking I should sell my ATIK, but CCD is still so nice for some things.

I have a ZWO ASI2600MM but it went back to the factory (cooling was not working). CCDs have a much better dynamic range as compared to CMOS

I use CCD cameras most of the time for solar (with the exception of the ASI174MM and now the Player one Saturn-M)

Hi, Pedro

Beautifully presented images as always in your posts. I fully agree with your experience with this camera in terms of gamma
causing what looks like noisy speckles in the area around proms (for me). It looks terrible on the live view but somewhat more tolerable when imported into PS for processing but I still have to adjust the dark level to suppress this noise. I like this camera for its sensitivity and sensor tilt (once I adjust that feature). It does give improved shutter speeds compared to my ASI 1600 (still prefered for 2 panel full discs such as my recent posts).

Thanks Lou & Steve

Lou, thanks for your reply. I also think that it's not easy to process high gamma solar images with this camera. I will have to experiment more to get better results. It is a great camera though, for solar and other imaging projects as well.

Isn't the 174MM now redundant if you have an IMX 533? Or does the 174MM retain some advantage?

Pedro, perhaps I am missing something...what are the FPS you get from typical framing windows on 533?
