A few from June 10, 2023

Post by ffellah »

Hello all: my first session post smoke and fires. I was shooting in the gaps between clouds. For Calcium I used the 72mm ED scope stopped down to 35mm, CaH Quark and 1.6x Barlow. For WL this is my first try with the G Band filter. I like it ! The contrast is great and it gives a much more textured view of the sun. The camera was the PG814 chip.

Hope you are all having a a nice weekend.
Franco

Franco,
That's a nice little scope. I almost bought one of those about three years ago. It was down between the Sky-Watcher EvoStar 72ED, The Astro-Tech AT72EDII and the Takahashi FS60. I chose the AT72EDII.

Nice discs. I always enjoy your work, especially your CaH images.

Thank you Dennis, Arne. I want to see how this G Band filter performs with larger scopes.

It should give really high resolution images given good seeing. Could you use it with your AiryLab/Celestron HaT SCT?

Thank you, Maurits and Aaron, for your comments. Greatly appreciated. James: the HaT scope transmission is not great at 430nm. I may try it anyway and post results if they are any good.

Franco,
Does the DERF coated corrector absorb the shorter wavelengths of light?

Thank you Mark. James: if I read the transmission report correctly, the Hat lets about 2% of white light through. I used it on the moon with reasonably good results, I have not tried it on the sun. Yet.

That’s surprising, Franco. The HaT is optimized for the Sun. ☀️
