M1.9 flare and eruption at AR3452 10/2/2023

Post by rigel123 »

Lucky timing for this one. I hadn't even looked at GONG when I first aimed at the sun and immediately saw a bright ring around AR3452 so grabbed a full disk shot quickly. This was at 12:47 UTC. I then got the alert that the flare had occurred and peaked at 12:46 and I noticed a bit of disturbance around the area so quickly attached the 3X TeleXtender and caught this 1 hour of the eruption from the flare. Seeing was even cooperative and not a cloud in the sky! I think I'll buy a lottery ticket! Lunt LS60T DS/ASI174MM. 500 frames captured with 30 second delay between videos. Autostakkert, ImPPG, Photoshop and GIF Animator. A couple more animations from this morning to work on and I want to work out the estimation as to how fast that plasma was moving! BTW, does anyone have the link to that template you can use for the size of the Earth, Jupiter and measuring distances on the sun? I lost my copy when my external hard drive died. Thanks!

Warren,
I remember getting the alert for this flare on my phone from SpaceWeatherLive well before setting up for this morning's session but I could have not gotten it at the time if I would have been set up because of intervening trees. Your animation of it is excellent. The ejecta looks gossamer delicate! It looks like none of it had the velocity to become a CME and got pulled back into the Sun in its entirety. Below is the capture from this mornings SWL flare alert of the event.

Two thumbs up!! :hamster:

Thanks Leo and James! Gossamer was the term I was trying to think of when I finished the animation and how to describe it James, thanks for verbalizing it for me!

This is great Warren !
The filament turns in emission (bright) at some places. Temperature must have been huge !
Well done.
