2023 12 07 Smoke Signals

Post by Simon2940 »

I know everyone loves a good prom but watching this one was really interesting. While it was akin to watching paint dry, i was also researching to predict what this prom would do. Interestingly, looking at PFSS data, the fact that there were no M Class flares would tell me that this wouldn't take off like a freight train out of control!

I wish we could get the PSFF data a little more up to date. I had to watch thru a lot of SDO and data and SOHO data to figure it it out.

Anyway, enjoy the giant animation.

Wow! The northern end of the massive prom lifting off and disrupting the neighboring quiescent prominence is spectacular. Bravo!

Cheers!

It did look like smoke signals or a rapidly building thunderhead. And wow you caught it in liftoff and dispersion. Nice!!

Awesome capture Simon! I captured this prom earlier in the day but between high clouds and horrendous seeing I’m not sure the animation is salvageable.
