Does AMP Glow of IMX183 affect Solar capture?

Post by sink45ny »

The smaller pixel size appeals to me?

If the IMX183 is good for Solar capture is the Pro - Cooled" version recommended?

Thanks!!
Steve

Hi Steve

I have a standard 183 and have never experienced issues with amp glow.

Thanks Mark. Do you use the 183 for Ha capture? Someone told me a grid pattern develops making Ha capture undesirable.

Hi Steve...

I wouldn't expect amp glow to be an issue with short exposures used in solar work, long exposure deep sky work would be where the cooled camera would be much more desirable.

The grid pattern was reported by some uses for Ha imaging but others have no issue...difficult to make a blanket assessment on it.

A cooled camera is not necessary for anything other than deep space longer exposure images.
When it comes to a grid pattern it seems to be very dependent on individual samples of the sensor. A true equipment lottery.

I've had no grid pattern issues

Thanks everyone. Now I have to decide if I will play the ASI183MM lottery.

The IMX533 chip should be a good choice too...available in multiple camera manufacturers lineup. Pixels aren't as small but inlike it.

I almost bought one at NEAF two weeks ago but I need to pay off this springs investment in syrup equipment to keep the divorce lawyers at bay 😅

I also use a 183mm for h-alpha no pattern either, I had a 178mm that would occasionally have a slight pattern. Mine seemed gain and exposure related, however it could have just as easily been sure chance.
