May 17 FD with 3nm CaK

Post by SolarMathmo »

Saw a lovely new block of spots emerging on the SDO feed so set up this morning despite the less than wonderful sky.

I'm continuing to work on my capture process with the 3nm CaK Altair filter and their Wave 125 and Hypercam 533M. I set the scope to 60mm today so my FR is now around f/16. This is certainly one of the more more contrasty and detailed FDs with this wide FWHM filter that I've had, but who knows what other factors may be at play. Seeing was all over the place in today's high haze.

Captured with Sharpcap 4.1 at 40fps, best 150 frames from 2500 stacked in AS4. My Herschel wedge was down at 0.6ND blocking which gave me 2ms exposures at a fairly modest gain. I had the tri-band D-ERF on the front to manage the energy flow to the camera down given the low blocking I'm now using. I favoured the exposure of the texture away from the spots in the processing, so the spots have ended up a bit darker than I'd like. I need to improve my curves/
