New Cooler 3rd version for Player-One

Post by rsfoto »

Hi,

I would like to present my 3rd ¿or 4th? version of an active cooler for my Player-One Saturn-M SQR camera.

Beeing cloudy I sent some time looking for some Heatsinks and found some with integrated heat pipes so I searched the smiley Company and foun some for cooling SSD type 2280 memory cards.

I got a bargain and got two of then each with double heat pipe for 22 bucks and voilá it after 24hours of brainstorm I exchanged the 50x50x20mm with the two Thermalright HR-10 2280 model heatsinks.

Tested the camera and there is noticeable more warm air coming out sideways then before.

Also tested the camera by connecting and disconnecting the cooler and definitively my camera suffers from Sunstroke. As I mentioned in another message I reported it to Player-One and I got an answer that Player -One wants to do a firmware upgrade.

Looks like they reserve the right to do the upgrades by themselves. I told him to send me the software to do it myself and got no answer so far.

This is ridiculous from Player-One side

Below the images of the new cooler. I was even thinking in getting a big CPU cooler with a 90mm fan and doublesided ribs but those are huge, 94x94x120mm and weigh a tonne

I think one of my problems at my site is the very low relative air humidity as my guess is that wet air can remove more heat from a surface then dry air. As of writing I have 39°C and 13% RH

I just received P1' s cooler to try out on my Saturn-M. I’m not having any issues with it even though it was running at over 50C the other day but don’t want it cooking for those long animations either. Of course after receiving it our temps have cooled again and the camera hasn’t gone above 36 C yet to even test the cooler out!

Hi Warren,

What is your ambient temperature?

It is not the same to have 36°C and 12% RH to having 23°C and 50 or 60% RH when one tries to cool something

Hi,

For those who are following this post yesterday I got a replacement camera Saturn-M SQR from Player One and at the moment testing it.

The new camera is running since one hour and at the moment at a temperature of 51.3°C with an ambient temperature of 33.7° and it is delivering as expected 22.5fps at ROI 2600x2600 @MONO16.

So definitively the other camera (first one) has a Bug...

I’ll take note of conditions in the next week or so our temps are supposed to climb into the 90’s (32C). I have the cooler running anyway since it is attached but haven’t paid any real attention to it since temps have mainly been around 24C.
