3 hours of a very quiet filaprom! 5/21/2024

Post by rigel123 »

I really thought this sucker might be prime for a lift off, but no!! I cut the 3 hours to about 10 seconds on this animation so you could see the activity. There was a nice little surge prom that occurs near the base of this monster but it just plugged along! I had about 7 minutes of clouds in the middle of the animation so there is a bit of a hiccup as well as a bit of flash from some contrails, but seeing wasn't too bad and I don't think I've ever seen a filaprom traverse the southern end of the sun and stay a filaprom. Maybe a Polar Crown Filaprom???? Lunt LS60T DS/Saturn-M SQR/Meade 2X Shorty Barlow. Oh yeah, the GIF turned out to be nearly 200MB so I'll link to an MP4 file as well in case you don't want to watch a still frame for a few minutes! :D

It might not be spectacular, but you've captured lovely movement there, and a few 'pops' locally. Very nicely done, Warren.

Thanks Petr, Martin, Mark and Stu! The more I watch it Stu, the more subtle disruptions I see within the prom, including a bit of rotation at the base. Very surprised at the number of days that this has stayed attached to the surface.
