May 21 2024 Imaging Session.
This morning between 15:30 and 16:00 UTC I imaged in 393.3nm K-Line and 540nm Continuum. The skies were partly cloudy with fair/average seeing and the temperature was 78F ( 25.5C ). I used the AT72EDII stopped down to 40mm for K-Line and the Orion70 glass filtered refractor at full aperture for Baader 540nm continuum. Both were mounted on my Losmandy AZ8 mount. The AT72EDII used the Antlia 393.3nm 3nm bp wedge/filter for K-Line and I used the Baader 540nm 10nm bp filter for " continuum ". The camera was my ZWO ASI178MM running on an old Windows 8.1 laptop. Image acquisition was done using SharpCap and stacking was done using AVIStack. Ps CC2020 was used as the post processor.
Carpe Lumen!!
James
P.S. I included the SDOAIA1600 as a comparison to my 393.3nm images.

Re: May 21 2024 Imaging Session.
Mark,
Thanks! It is really nice here.
John,
It may be wide-band CaK but I can trace out the faculae/plage as seen in narrow band CaK and in the SDO 160nm images. The contrast is just lower because of the photospheric light washing out the calcium. With the narrower filters one gets less or little photosphere and hence more calcium chromosphere which of course shows up with better contrast since it is not being drowned out by sideband light. I really like the Alluxa filters that Christian, Alfred and Mark use. They are tunable and perform superbly. The SDO is at a MUCH shorter wavelength but sees the same features.
Petr,
Thanks! Have you ever thought about doing CaK, Gband or Continuum?
James
