Complex AR13664 heading towards limb 11th May 2024

Post by Carbon60 »

Nic (Nicspenceryork) paid me a visit yesterday morning on her way to see a friend locally. We had a lovely morning chatting and capturing images. Here are some results showing the complex and highly active region AR13664 in Ha and at 430nm as it heads towards the south western limb.

The seeing wasn't great and there was a lot of haze/thin cloud around that knocked off some of the finer details.

First up are our Ha images captured on my 150mm refractor operating at an effective focal length of about f34 with a Basler acA1920-155um camera:

We then switched over to the blue end of the spectrum with my Lacerta wedge fitted with a 430nm filter on a Tecnosky 125mm stopped down to 80mm. The first was taken with a 2.7x Barlow and Basler acA2440-75um camera and the second with a 5x PM with a Basler 1920-155um camera.

These were the best we could achieve under the conditions at the time.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Great closeup, Stu! Great AR13664! It's always very pleasure when you can observe the sun with your hobby colleagues.

It was such a pleasure to meet you Stu and I had the best time seeing your set ups for various wavelengths etc. I shared some of the images I watched you take and process on Instagram and have been inundated with positive comments and questions so I bet your 'ears have been burning'! I suggested they watch your presentation from Sunday's Solarchat zoom and, those that have, found it extremely informative. The knock on effect/ripple of your skills and kindness are travelling wide and it's important that you know.
You're an inspiration.
Nic
