Less is more

Post by nicspenceryork »

Hi all,
Here's a couple of images of the same active region a few days apart.
I've been stopping down G Band from 80 to 60 because I'd got used to stopping down to 60 for CaK. It seemed to give good results and then on a day I tried it with full 80 aperture the results were no better so I stuck with 60. How many times have we all done that?! Tried it once and made the wrong assumption when it was likely seeing or some other factor at play! After completing the Excel document Stu recommended in the last zoom meeting, I felt I should try again... glad I did! I caught more detail at full aperture so I could strip back the processing even further. The first is stopped to 60 and then more intensely processed. The second is full 80. I also revisited number of frames in the stack. In the first is 100 and in the second is 120. I think the results speak for themselves!

Thank you . Yes, you're right. Taking the time to complete it with various combinations helped me to further understand how manipulating the variables in situations can help to get the best from available equipment.
