Today after a line of thunderstorms moved through I caught the Sun in Hydrogen-Alpha. My session was a short one between 19:25 and 19:45 UTC. The skies were partly cloudy with below average seeing. The temperature was 76F ( 24.4C )

Today I could see all five of the numbered active regions shown on the earlier KSO Ha reference image. One in the northern hemisphere and four in the southern hemisphere. An additional unlabeled region could be seen in the southern hemisphere bringing my observed total to six.

AR13690 could be seen as three spots. Plage could be seen around the spots near to the NE limb. I could see some filaments on the north-central part of the disc.

AR13684 could be seen as faint plage in the far SW. The spot also is hard to see. Further east but still in the SW quadrant lies AR13685 and AR13686. This complex is large and very easy to see. Easy plage surrounds the three spots and some fine filaments were present there. To the east just west of the CLM lies a long thin broken filament. The SE quadrant shows AR13689 as plage. Just to the east of AR13689 lies an unlabeled system. I see is as a spot with a bit of plage to its east. A featherlike filament lies to its north and a long broken filament lies to its SE.

With a little tweaking of the tuning knobs I could see most of the prominences shown on the GONG BBSO image, Two stood out. An easy one on the SE limb had two dark voids or bubbles and a faint floater hung above the NW limb.

The usual mottling of the chromosphere could be seen.

James

Nice report James! I only managed some very brief CaK imaging yesterday in very poor seeing conditions. Looks like rain for me today.

Thanks Mark,
Today’s weather forecast is calling for scattered thunderstorms for here today with a greater chance for tomorrow plus I go to church today and have a lot of errands to run afterwards so it does not look good for doing solar for me.

Sit back and drink you a beer and relax today and observe the sun online!

James
