May 24, 2024, M-flares in Ha and CaK update: flare animation CaK
Hi all,
I felt like I was out of the game in May, having missed so many amazing events in the sun, while trekking a couple of weeks in the Himalayas, where in addition it was almost constantly cloudy or I was in the clouds themselves))
Only on Friday I had normal imaging session. After looking at the floating prominence in Ca K, I missed the beginning of the M1.4 flare in AR3685, but then happened the next M1.2 there an hour later when I switched to Ha. Seeing was unstable, but there were enough moments to capture the flare on C11 with Quark and 174 camera at a scale of 0.10"/pix.
thanks for looking
Leo

Gorgeous Leo! Good excuse to miss the sun, I’ll settle for hiking the 7 hills of Cincinnati!

Great work Leo, what Cak module are you using?
Skywatcher 120mm F8.3 open frame refractor, 2" Antlia dual band ERF filter as a sub energy rejection filter, Flip Mirror to either a Baader TZ4 telecentric focal extender, Combo Quark Chromosphere, Naked PST etalon for double stacking, ASI74mm camera, or an Antlia 5a Cak filter, ASI290mm camera. 100mm aperture is stopped down to 50mm for Cak.

I appreciate all your kind comments, guys!
I use full aperture 120/1000 Celestron optimized for Ca and Lunt B1800 CaK together with the main filter from Lunt B600 in DS, photo is here:

Much appreciated, Arne and Warren!
Seeing is very challenging to obtain enough footage for hi-res animation in Ca, I was hoping while capture, but was pleasantly surprised at the end.
Pity I have a limit 50Mb per image at astrobin, there are some losses in details due to size reduction.
thanks for looking

If you upgrade to Ultimate subscription then there is neither any limitation on image size or number of images.LeoD wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 7:56 pm Much appreciated, Arne and Warren!

Thank you for reminding an opportunity, Arne, I'll post more animations with less compromise
BTW how to insert astrobin previews directly here?
