X2.9 Flare!
This morning I awoke to an X2.9 flare alert on SpaceWeatherLive and also read a post by PeterM on the event concerning the flare and it's possible association on the returning AR13664 which of course will be relabeled. AR13664 is the active region that gave off most of the M and X class activity on the last pass around. It looks like it may not be dead yet! Here is some data I obtained online concerning the flare. One image from SWL and the others through Helioviewer. All use SDO data.
Has anyone checked out GONG yet or better yet imaged it?

Re: X2.9 Flare!
That’s the region I’m recording the post flare loops now. Clouds interrupted the Ha so switched over to CaK in hopes of catching them and now grabbing frames for a (cross your fingers) animation of them in CaK too. Seeing isn’t great though!!

Re: X2.9 Flare!
Good luck Warren. I am under strong thunderstorms so there is no sun for me.

Re: X2.9 Flare!
Hi
I luckily saw it at 1.20 BST.
Santel Rumak 180, 2" Energy dump, ES 2" 2x, 1.25" Energy dump, UV/IR, Red CCD, Baader 7nm, T2 Prism, Quark Prom, DS PST Etalon, 40mm Celestron Symetric. First decent view, 2nd.
I can see some details on the surface so could have a nice view of the filaprom. The coronal loops had bright mushroom tops for me. There was a faint upward 45Deg spike going to the filaprom above.
Cheers. Andrew.

And you know it was a violent release when it shows like this on the AIA 1600 A data ...

Re: X2.9 Flare!
Andrew,
It is so nice to see a visual report of this event. Nicely done!
Steve,
Thanks for the additional data. The flare ejecta shows up really well at the AIA1600 wavelength. This was at or very close to the time of the flare just before the loops formed. If only one of our CaK imagers would have been up and running at that time. The CME from the event looks significant as well but being on the limb will not be Earth directed.
Mark,
Your CaK work on the event was awesome!!
All,
Below is a GONG colorised Ha image of the event.
James
P.S. And Pedro, Awesome work on those images!!

Re: X2.9 Flare!
It should also be noted that the X-2.9 valuation is likely a lot lower than the flare actually produced , as the source was still behind the limb and the x-ray detectors only caught a relatively small part of the blast.

Would it be lower or higher? After all some of the flare may have been obscured by the limb. I have also wondered if a just behind the limb flare would affect the x ray output the GOES satellites would see.
