A4 format is not really a new thing. Let's hope we will have some news of rolls availability.

I think those of you in the UK and EU are going to get them faster than I would since they are imported into the US.

Either way, the moment they land, I will let everyone know.

I've registered my email here:
https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/s ... d-3.8.html

"Choose an option...100x50"
"Please notify me when this product is back in stock".

Perhaps increase the noise in their inbox and they'll get fed up with us and make it happen sooner!

I recently bought the ASTF 240 (OD5) for my C9 - £144 in UK.

The "BDSF 180" is the max size available for 3.8 right now from Baader (166 euros).
https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/s ... 80mm).html
[(80mm---280mm)]

I don't know if the "---280mm" is a typo or plans of things to come. Nothing above 180 available.

I really don't want 2x 14" pizza box size filters lying around for the cat to shred because it's bored.
Anyone need a cat? :)

OD3.8 rolls are still unobtanium from Baader. And most likely always will be.
https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/a ... d-3.8.html
Select "Version" = 100x50
"3.8 is only available in sheets of 200x290 mm. Other sizes are not available".

You can buy ready made ASTF (5.0) up to 280mm.
You can buy ready made BDSF (3.8) up to 180mm only.

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to supply this film - and probably won't be able to for some time.

The stocks are sold out and we have to start a new production run, which is a huge, expensive effort for us. The machines are designed to produce such large quantities at once that we can sell them for many years. Test runs are needed beforehand, and then they have to be assembled, which all takes months.

We hope that we will be able to deliver again in the near future so that we can equip our customers for the upcoming solar eclipses in Spain from 2025.

Thank you for your understanding.

With kind regards

My guess is that other brands will enter this market gap soon enough.

Thanks Dennis for contacting Baader and the response.
I doubt they will make 3.8 at all for general public consumption at eclipse gatherings.

I think their lawyers have dissuaded them from making anymore.
What next? Celestron stops making scopes because someone ignored the "do not look at the sun" label then tried to sue them?

My C9.25 is gagging for some 3.8! I'll sign an indemnity waver Mr Baader! Pretty please :)

Yes, it is probably as you say. Lawsuits here are a bit different and i assume it was a strategic decition to not produce the larger sheets of 3.8 anymore. One customer that ignores instructions and hurts himself with these is appearently enough for the company to face big problems. I have no other explanation for the production stop.

Agreed - and I meant "in the larger sizes" when I stated "I doubt they will make 3.8..."
Clearly they do make 3.8 in the smaller sizes up to 180.

But surely those smaller sizes come from big production rolls?
