Trouble with Solar Chat forum site

Post by oldfrankland »

Recently, I find that it is taking a long time, some times up to half a minute for the social networking links to download on this site page, meaning I have to wait that long to read a posting. If I try to stop or back out of the page it occasionally locks up the browser and I have to start over.

Now this could just be my computer and server, but I also find that I can no long access Solar Chat with my tablet.

I've been with the group from the beginning, but only now having these issues. If I can't resolve this problem I won't be able to participate here as often.

Anyone else seeing this kind of problem?

What browser are you using? Although I'm new here I have not had this problem using iPad, Safari and my kids computer Mozilla.

Hi Jim

I was having some speed problems 3 weeks ago. Now it seems to behave right.

The reloging is really not the best solution, and you all now, I'm not happy with the little green monsters

Chris and Jim,

I apologize for any inconvenience.

I have emptied the site cache and am having the admin reboot the server in a few minutes. You may have to sign back in.

Chris and possibly Jim, the screen capture Chris posted shows me that you are running IE but not in the "compatibility mode". There is a torn piece of paper looking icon in the right side of the address bar that must be activated to correctly run this forum and its php and java scripts. I know it is not activated on your screen capture because the images and text breaks are automatically resized to fit in the message window on this forum, except for someone who is using IE not in the compatibility mode.

This will definitely cause all sorts of problems. Otherwise, empty your cache and reboot IE.

I have had no problems with speed from my side on any of my Macs, Iphones, or PC on Mozilla, Firefox, IE or safari so I doubt it is a systemic issue.

I would hate for anyone to leave the forum over this but I know Jim, that you have went several weeks before without posting or maybe even logging on so perhaps your cache is so far out of date it is having trouble syncing.

Speed is running fine for me also Stephan!

But I actually had to try and log in 3 times just now before it took my password?

Maybe its just because its such an awesome place and just tons of people all here at the same time!

that was probably during the server reboot.

Well that didnt work. Im now in compatibility mode and I still get the error messages that there is a script running in the background and it takes almost half a minute for any thing to happen when I click on something. My hard drive runs full speed during this time and only when It slows down will the page appear. Something has been added either intentionally or not the past day that has changed everything. :(

it's a really simple forum and there haven't been any changes made to it in over a year. Can you try from another device or computer?

Chris, Jim,

I did some research on this issue with some developer friends and as usual, it is an IE problem related to the exorbitant amount of security protocols needed in IE since it is THE most hacked browser on Earth.

This link:
http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9729250

goes to an automated fix it tool put out by Microsoft that addresses the error message seen in the screen capture above.

apparently, it has to do with the various pop-up blockers out there trying to block the image popup script on this site and is a problem in Internet Explorer only. Of course Microsoft blames the developers and the developers blame Microsoft.

I am sorry for the inconvenience but this would be a great time for you guys to dump IE for this and about a million other issues.
