Sun July 8th

Post by ffellah » Mon Jul 09, 2018 12:04 am

Hello all: I was out this morning with a blue sky and lots of hope. No luck with high res, but I was able to pull a couple of images with the SM 90 DS. Not my best work, but still something.... :)

Clear skies to all

Franco

Hi Franco...

The disk is still pretty blank, but you caught he new AR that is emerging as well as some of the proms and filaments.

Thanks for sharing,

Thank you Brian, Alexandra and Pedro, for your comments.

The weather seems to be improving here, so maybe some better seeing will be available in the near future.

Franco:
Very nice and clean shots, but looks like you have to experiment with the "Tilter" and the "Rich View" adjustments, so to make the image more uniform and contrasty.
It took me long to get my SM 90-DS adjusted, not perfectly as I would like, but much better than before.
Believe me, I have used a BF10, a BF15, and a BF30, and they all need a different adjustment off "Tilt" and "Rich View".
Best wishes,
Eric.

Thank you, Eric. Yes, the SM90 is not easy for me to get in band, due to the length of the scope and the distance of the second external etalon from the eyepiece. I will try to do better next time, and thank you for your advice.

Franco:
Take look at this post by Ibbo, Sol 4-7-2018 Ha and also to this one: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=23463
You can manage to move the tilter, etc., via small motors or via long extension controls.
I have not used any of these systems but they sure look very helpful.
Best regards,
Eric.

Franco,
It is always a successful session if you manage to get anything worth showing.
It is all good practice. I have been following the threads on DS adjustments.
I have enough problems adjusting the single SM40 on a slightly longer scope.
I think my arms must be shorter than the average T-Rex :-)
But my mechanical ability errs more to the Marmite Jar lid mod rather than the bespoke machined
solutions. That is a hobby on its own and I marvel at anyone and their achievements who can do it.
Hope you get a satisfactory solution to the adjustment problem.
Best wishes,
David
