Low cost DIY Camera Tilt Adaptor

Post by Carbon60 » Thu Feb 28, 2019 5:46 pm

I've been looking for a C-mount tilt adaptor for my new Basler camera to kill NRs but can't find anything anywhere. Plenty of T2s, but no Cs. I decided to make my own and it works like a dream. For anyone interested, here's how:

Firstly I purchased a metal C-mount to 1.25" nose piece. I then cut through the tube close to the base creating a gap, leaving a small (approx 1cm wide) bridge that could be deformed by bending. I ran some trials on my Lunt 60 to see how much tilt I needed to kill NRs with the sawn nose piece in place, shielding the gap to prevent stray light entering the camera. By adjusting the gap I found the point at which NRs disappeared, also checking with my Barlow lenses that this was true across the range of optics that I intend to use.

Once the gap was correct, I removed the nose piece and filled the gap with epoxy, smoothed it off and painted the adaptor black inside and out.

Hope this may be of some help to anyone with the same issue. BTW, it cost me about £10.

Nice one Stu, thanks for sharing. Any idea how much degrees of tilt you required?
