Large prom on Oct 11

Post by gabrieli » Fri Oct 11, 2019 9:09 pm

The prom from last day put on a nice display today. Conditions were windy with intermittent good seeing. It's sad that some of the best seeing this year is happening in the last few weeks of the season, barring unexpected events that might happen in colder weather. A LS152 was used with a Quark Chromosphere for the following.

Very nice! I viewed this one today through my Coronado Solarmax II 60 and got decent views at 16x 22x and 33x. 50x worked well too. I tried pushing the scope to 100 power and while I could detect the prominence It was spread out too much making it to dim to see any detail within it. Using lower to moderate magnifications I found the prom to look like a fist with a thumb up. The details looking like fingers and thumb. It is like seeing patterns in clouds I guess. I can see it here also but the much greater resolution makes it a bit less obvious.

Thanks, Maurits and other viewers

My first reaction on seeing the SPOD image was "Hey, I took an image of that same prom that was almost as good as the SPOD".

Hi Lou...

Excellent prom images and the photo of the Day is well deserved. Well done :bow
