The AR continues on May 23

Post by gabrieli » Sat May 23, 2020 9:00 pm

Over night, last night, my furnace didn't need to run and that told me there was a hot day ahead.
Two of the usb ports on my laptop stopped working (one was missing a plastic guide and the other next to it looked ok but wasn't powered up. So, I went back to an older laptop for data collection.

On the plus side, I realized that I could shorten the optical train in my last post by about 2 inches by inserting the LS50F directly into the 2X Powermate. The extra length was an extension tube that had been used for something in the past. The seeing was definitely worse than the previous day but lots of fine detail was still visible jumping around on the live view.

Interesting, seems to be a lot more noise in these compared to yesterday's.

Came out well despite the conditions, Lou.

Hi Lou,

Pretty shots of the AR. Seems to have darker tone on the left vertical area. Did you use flats?

Thanks for the comments

The image is more noisy than previous image. Usually, I apply one of the noise reduction filters in AstraImage but I didn't here since it tended to reduce the detail.

Reply for Alfred

The first couple of images show the "sweet spot" produce by the optical train. I usually correct uneven tones like this by using layers and level adjustments but not in this case. So, in these images you may see darker tones on the right and left.

I think the observation "came out well despite the conditions" will be an accurate way of describing many of my images in the conditions I'm experiencing.
