Re: PERSEIDS 2020
Hello Pedro,
Glad you got some captures of the Perseid's and thanks for showing us.
Here in S.E.England, on the night of the 11th/12th, I completed an all-night session with my StarlightXpress Oculus All-Sky-Camera (exactly the same as your one). Using the newly downloaded AllSkEye imaging program, it was a pleasure to use and watch it at work - automatically...
I captured just four definite meteors with continuous 45 second-frames and imaging between 21:30hrs & 04:00hrs/GMT, so was not so much of a shower on that night... They are faint - due to poor-seeing conditions and later in the session due to the rising-moon reflecting off of fine-haze/humidity.
In fact, I captured more over-flying aircraft than meteors - the contrail of one which lased for several minutes in the 02:13z image.
For the 12th/13th, the main expected shower, was clouded-out all night.
For the 13th/14th, only flashes of lightning from the eastern-thunderstorms would have been visible with their associated clouds...
Best Wishes and CLEAR SKIES
and less humid-temperatures too...
Regards
Terry

Re: PERSEIDS 2020
Great results Terry. Perseid maximum was on 12/8 06:00h. I was clouded during that night and I could only image one day later
The Oculus camera is mainly for fireballs and not faint meteors. I was able to capture 4 bright fireballs during my imaging session
best regards

Re: PERSEIDS 2020
Wow!! well done guys! the images are great, to even get one-four meteors is brilliant!
I do like the sound of this
We were clouded out all nights this week due to overnight thunderstorms so it is great to see these images

Re: PERSEIDS 2020
Thanks Alexandra and yeh ! - its' not fair that Pedro gets all the best weather - always...
Whilst during my flying-days and nights, I was thinking about taking a small telescope etc., up there and above the clouds and pollution, but unlike SOFIA, my likkle aeroplane was not very capable of remaining steady-enough (amongst several other factors too)...
+++
Hi Pedro, Thanks so much for your explanation and the IMO Graph, where looking at it closely does explain the timings and ZHR - and where clearly the night of the 12th/13th would have been a better imaging-session for the Perseids, but only if that weather had allowed, as was hoping for a further all-night session - then..
Can I ask which program you use for Oculus to PC ? I tried several times with the SX's own program, finding it much more difficult than the one now being used as " AllSkEye" which I only downloaded on the 6th August'20 and found to be better suited for all-night imaging etc.
The automatic-frame-rates are typically 45-seconds when a dark-sky and with only about a 1-second break between each.
I've still got more to learn about other settings of this new capture-program.
The further attached image taken only an hour or so after the first/short night session of the "AllSkEye" program on the 6th August, actually surprised me and although I can't be certain which meteor-origin, but it certainly seems that this could be a fireball and an early Perseid ???
Also now that I have the two-large screens (1=Hi-res) from the professional-grade computer, it really allows for excellent viewing live, or after...
I will be looking more into the IMO website for future use and registering too, so thanks for that Pedro...
Certainly, this "All-Sky-Camera" imaging is different from Solar-imaging and at least allows for filling-in the times when one can't take images at other times of the day. Also as with the new-computer (not a laptop) complete with just about every connection (including serial) and 8xUSB's etc., etc., trying-out the Oculus was the first testing of the new set-up and other than it being far-too hot/humid to proceed with the next testing stage of remote-control via the computer for the SKYWATCHER AZ-EQ6GT Alt-Az mount (which has previously been PC operating here), then to now be able to finely-adjust the Ha and WL cameras (with the improved-help from the new large screens) - to get back to what I achieved over two-years ago and then posting such...
Best Wishes and PLEASE KEEP SAFE & WELL
Regards
Terry

Re: PERSEIDS 2020
I use the original Starlight Xpress soft. It is easy to use and you can control most of the parameters
I tend to use 30s integrations most of the time. I also calibrate all images with a master dark (30s)
I use Maxim DL for calibration (pre-processing) and making the videos
I also used AllSkEye soft but it changes the integration all the time (it is not easy to calibrate the images)
best regards

Re: PERSEIDS 2020
OK on those answers Pedro and thanks vm.
Perhaps I should spend some more time with the SX software now that I can see what you have captured and even do some comparisons with AllSkEye to assist my learning-curve whilst waking-up my grey-matter too.
Regards
Terry
