Geomagnetic Unrest- 2nd Feb 2021-UPDATED

Post by Carbon60 »

Earth is being buffeted by a fast flowing solar wind stream coming from a southern coronal hole in the Sun's atmosphere.

Here's my chart covering the past three days which shows the arrival and progression of geomagnetic unrest caused by the flowing plasma.

Looks like there might be a night of fireworks around the poles for those lucky enough to be in the right place, with clear skies.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Ahhhh.....indeed. Clear skies would be very welcome, daytime and overnight :)

For completeness, here's the event in full over the past few days.

The activity was mostly due to fast flowing solar wind with varying magnetic polarity which coupled and de-coupled from our own magnetic field here on Earth, allowing solar plasma to periodically penetrate deeper into our upper atmosphere. Things seem to have settled again until the next event, possibly tomorrow.

Thanks for looking
