Geomagnetic Unrest 20th March 2021- UPDATED

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi All,

Earth has just entered a fast flowing stream of solar wind (>600 km/s) with fluctuating Interplanetary Magnetic Field (Bz), which is giving rise to geomagnetic unrest.

Here are my data, captured on my magnetometer buried in my garden here in the UK.

The source is a southern coronal hole and the effect is likely to be around for the next two-three days. A good time for Aurora watchers.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Thanks, Alexandra,

Here's an updated version. Looks like it was quite an unsettled night. The 'unrest' was upgraded to G2 storm.

Great to see your observation of the storm Stuart :bow

No sign of aurora last night around midnight when I left the sugar bush, but the moon was still up as well.
