Tracking Sunspot AR12822-12823

Post by SoumyadeepMukherjee »

After a gap of around 5 months (after AR12794), we saw a sunspot (AR12822) making a complete journey around the earth-fscing solar disk over a period of 13 days. On 7th May 2021, we saw an active region peeping from the North-eastern limb. It came into full view on the next day and continued its journey till 19th May 2021 before rotating into the far-side. During this period, we also had AR12823 which was in view for 6 days (10th May to 15th May 2021).

Gear: Nikon D5600, Sigma 150-600c, Thousand Oaks Solar Filter (white-light)

Image: Blend of 13 images captured over a period of 13 days

Processing: PIPP, Adobe Camera Raw, Photoshop

Location: Kolkata, India

Date: 7th May 2021 to 19th May 2021

Very nice study!
I guess you can calculate the Sun’s rotation rate at the heliographic latitude of the spots.
Might be an interesting exercise.
Cheers.
