G1 Geomagnetic Storm 16th June 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

Earth is sitting in a fast flowing stream of solar wind from a coronal hole, currently with a velocity of 575 km/s. The effect of this so far has been a G1 geomagnetic storm that arrived in the late hours of June 15th, although the resulting aurora appear to have been very subdued and the storm has since abated, becoming downgraded to 'geomagnetic unrest' with a planetary 'K' index of 4 to 3 and now 2. There's a chance things might pick up again when Earth exits the wind stream in the coming hours.

Here are my data from my magnetometer here in the UK.
