Pedro,
That’s one of the most beautiful images I have seen of M42, amateur or professional. That refractor does very nicely and your processing skills are to be admired.

👍🏻👍🏻. James.

One of my best views of any galaxy was of M101 back in 1985 through a friend’s 15” F4.1 classic Dobsonian. We had nice dark skies back then and I remember the galaxy looking like a pale version of what you see/do in images. I could visually see nearly all the HII regions and star clouds. It was awesome. I’ll never forget that view. Though rebuilt my friend still has that scope.

Excellent images Pedro!!

James.

M33!! Years back I used my Coulter 10.1" and my friends 15" dobsonian to find and identify many of the HII regions and star clouds in the galaxy visually. That was back when we had much darker skies. I had always intended to search for the system's globulars but never got around to it. They would be stellar or near so in appearance. And faint!

I did find Mayall II which belongs to M31. It was a tiny faint fuzzball appearing as an out of focus star near two other dim stars. I remember having to use high magnification to pin it down. This was with the 10.1" under rural skies.

Awesome and thank You Pedro. I'll have to consult my records and see how many of these I have found. Certainly not near all of them! I'll save this image as well for future use. Now mostly for use with Slooh but when I move to my Dad's I will have much darker skies to probe M33. I can see a few from my house at the current time with my 10.1" and 12" dobs with NGC-604 being the easiest.

Is this image yours?

Keep posting your deep sky stuff. After I move to Lowndesville S.C. around years end they will be of considerable use to me. I will have much darker nighttime skies there!

Hey, Pedro!

I spent four hours last night ( April 22-23 ) under dark rural skies at my father's place outside of Lowndesville S.C. observing deep sky with my Sky-Watcher 304mm ( 12" ) Dob. NGC-4565 was one of the many galaxies I observed. I could visually see the thin dark lane and the central bulge. The edge on spindle shape is striking. I also viewed many galaxies in Virgo including Markarian's Chain and M87. In Leo I viewed the Leo Triplet, M-64, the Blackeye Galaxy in CMA in which the dark part of the galaxy can be seen. M108 and the Owl Nebula in UMA. I could faintly see the eyes of the owl! M51 and M101 was viewed too. I could barely make out the ghostly spiral structure and a bit of the knottiness in the spiral arms caused by the HII regions located there. Years back, using a friends 15" dob I saw the galaxy with no fewer than 5 HII regions in planely visible spiral arms. It looked like a ghostly rendition of it's photos! M-57 in Lyra is an easy oval ring with an interior lighter than it's exterior. I still can't see it's central star though. M104, the Sombrero was also a nice view. The dust lane can be seen visually. M81 and M82 in UMA were nice. M82 shows several dark lines of dust crossing it's cigarlike shape.

Globulars M3, M13 and M92 looked awesome, bright and well resolved in the 304mm scope.

It was really nice doing deep sky again. It was my main interest in astronomy before getting involved in Ha solar. I have far more time invested in it. Moving to a darker site will certainly rekindle my love for the deep=sky!

Those are amazing images of NGC-4565!!

James

Spring is great for observing galaxies and lots of other deep-sky objects

Best regards from Portugal

Yes, spring and fall for galaxies and summer and winter for Milky Way.

Welcome. Nice work. I think your DS imaging is even better than your solar is and that says much!

Thanks James, I've been imaging the DS since 1978 with different telescopes

Christmas 1978 was when I began my foray into amateur astronomy when my parents bought me a focal 50mm F12 Japanese made refractor for Christmas. It had only a cheap 12mm eyepiece, 0.965" of course. I used a pair of Traq 10x50 binoculars for wide field, to find objects and then deployed the scope for a closer look. Astrophotography meant for me using an old 110 or 126 instamatic to take pictures of the projected solar disc. That's how I got started. I was 14 at the time.

When did you start into amateur astronomy? You are older than you look, Pedro.

James

And judging by your nighttime images, your light pollution is low too!
