AR12853 and some proms

Post by Hughsie »

Cloud dodging and a light leak in the image train that I have not seen before provided the challenges today. Strategically placing the Lunt fabric carry bag over the diagonal, powermate and camera did the trick solving the light issue. The clouds as we all know are another problem entirely.

Images -

1) An overview of the activity on the solar disc.

2) A nice prominence captured on the south east limb.

3) A close up of AR12853. No spots but it remains an active flare region.

Cheers,

John

These are absolutely fabulous captures and processing John.
I do love the framing of your images too.
We both had that marvelous break in the clouds today and your captures show this well.

But, " a light leak in the image train" and " Lunt fabric carry bag over the diagonal, Powerate and camera" sounds quite unusual and I wasn't aware that Lunt issued fabric carry bags either, so please let us know the secret ??

CLEAR SKIES
Terry

Hi Ivan, I use a pressure tuned 60 mm Lunt, single stacked, with a B1200 blocking filter.

Thanks Terry. I was using a Tele Vue 4x Powermate for the second time and when taking flats I noticed two bright bands diagonally across the sensor. For some reason Lunt included a cloth bag when I bought it from FLO. It's pretty useless as a bag and you can’t even put the scope in it then place both in the case.

When I saw the lines on the screen I thought ‘lights leaking in, I need something to cover it’. The wife had the washing out and I thought about using a pair of my pants (underwear for any Americans online!). But as I already had my head under a black sheet so I could view my laptop screen without glare, the last thing I needed was someone looking over the fence seeing a man under a sheet with his pants on his telescope which is pointing at the Sun.

Somehow, the Lunt bag seemed more appropriate.

John
