40mm scope options

Post by EricF »

I'm still looking for a solar telescope. I think I've narrowed it down to double stacked PST or Lunt 40mm with B1200. Maybe the Lunt 50mm DS, but the price is rising quickly there and limited to B600.

I've seen a couple of reviews for the Lunt 35 and the Lunt 40 that suggest Lunt was planning a double stack etalon for these scopes. but I haven't seen anything outside of those reviews.

So what options do I have to double stack the Lunt 40?

I suppose I could sacrifice a second Lunt 40mm scope and somehow bodge the etalon onto the first scope. Or I could find a Coronado SM40 DS etalon and do the same - but they are just about unobtainable now.

Any other possibilities?

I think my choice there would be the DS50 with the B600.

Hi Mark, I think I'm still stuck on the idea of the B600 causing vignetting. From the geometry, it seems the B600 starts blocking the light cone before you get to the edge of the sun. Otherwise it would be the obvious choice.

B1200 would seem to be fine with any reasonable focal length (to the end of my arm, where I can't reach the DS adjustment anymore).

What are you thinking about here - b1200 with a 50mm Lunt?

Yes. B1200 with 50mm Lunt scope. It would have to be special order - the only options on the website are B400 and B600.

I suppose it really comes down to 'will I see vignetting' with the B600?

No you won't see vignetting with the b600.

There is absolutely no point running a b1200 on a lunt50.
