G1 Geomagnetic Storm 17th September 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

A weak CME impact arrived early afternoon (UT UK) sparking a G1 geomagnetic storm and beautiful aurora this evening.

Here are my magnetometer data of the event so far.

Might be a good night to view the aurora for those lucky enough to be in a good location.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks, Mark.

Here's an update from this afternoon.

In the end I think the event got classed as geomagnetic unrest rather than a G1 storm, but still it sparked some beautiful aurorae.

Cheers.

Excellent Stuart :hamster: I did get an Aurora alert but I didn't think it was strong enough to view from here. I did look out for the Inspiration4 pass at 10pm but I couldn't see that either, the Moon was too bright I think.

I saw a pic taken from the centre of Sheffield and the aurora around 9.30pm was surprisingly bright.

Many thanks, Alexandra/Mark.

As we know, at this time of the year it requires only a little magnetic disturbance to produce bright aurora. Too cloudy here though :(
